When you combine the classic flavor of a Florida Navel Orange with a brilliant shade of red, you get the perfect orange treat: Florida Scarlet Navel Oranges. Evoking Florida sunsets, Florida Scarlet Navel Oranges are red Cara Cara Navels that make a wonderfully festive gift.
Like the more familiar Golden Navels, Scarlet Navels are seedless, thin-skinned and easy to peel and section.
The Florida Scarlet Navel Orange is great for hand eating and fresh ruby orange juice. When used for juice they should be fresh-squeezed right before drinking for the best flavor and highest Vitamin C content.
Are you looking for the perfect holiday orange? With a Florida Red Navel Orange you will get the classic flavor of a Florida Navel Orange combined with a brilliant shade of red. This accidental variety was discovered in 1976 in Venezuela. In the 1980s, a process of grafting branches bearing Red Navel Oranges onto suitable root stock allowed growers to develop orange trees that produced these colorful fruits in Florida, resulting in the Florida Red Navel Orange.
On the outside, Red Navel Oranges look like a normal Navel Orange. However, inside, the Red Navel Orange offers a brilliant red color. This makes the Red Navel Oranges similar to blood oranges. The natural red color is due to an increased amount of lycopene. Lycopene is a carotenoid that appears naturally in fruit, and is similar to beta-carotene. Red Navel Oranges are seedless and offer a thin skin that is easy to peel and section.
On their own or mixed with other citrus fruits, Red Navel Oranges will add a splash of color and sweetness to your recipes and snacks this holiday season. Red Navel Oranges are a special holiday treat and are only available for a few weeks in the fall. Because the supply is limited it is important to act quickly and order early to guarantee delivery!
Not only are Florida Red Navel Oranges juicy and sweet, but they are renowned for their concentration of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is the primary water-soluble antioxidant found in the body. Antioxidants work to disarm free radicals and prevent damage to both the inside and outside of cells. In areas of the body where cellular turnover is rapid, it is especially important to have a good intake of Vitamin C as preventing mutations in DNA prevents cancer. In fact, a good intake of Vitamin C has been associated with a reduced risk of colon cancer.
With a high concentration of Vitamin C, oranges are the perfect healthy snack. However, Florida Red Navel Oranges take it a step further. Though they may look like ordinary Navel Oranges on the outside, on the inside these premium seedless oranges offer a deep red color that is loaded with beta carotene. Just one of these delicious specialty fruits a day supplies you with more than your daily requirement of Vitamin C.

Florida red Navel Oranges are a "sport," or accidental variety, discovered in 1976 in Venezuela. Called the Cara Cara Navel after the Hacienda on which they were found, the first red Navel oranges were brought to Florida soon after and became available as a specialty fruit in the 1980s. Similar to blood oranges, the red color is a result of an increased amount of lycopene, a carotenoid that appears naturally in the fruit and is in the same family as beta-carotene.
Through a process of grafting branches bearing red Navel Oranges onto suitable root stock, growers developed orange trees that produce these colorful Florida Scarlet Navel Oranges.
